standard and princess type eh binebase sa size, princess type, yung maliliit na type, at standard, yun yung normal size.
yung mga line eh yung history ng generation nya.

hi!

Grin

fabpaws is right. there's no such thing as imperial or princess type shih tzu. they are actually the runt of the litter, ung mga mas maliit sa standard shih tzu size. when shown they will not even make it to the ring because sub standard nga. other than being the runt of the litter, thre are breeders who intentionally breed undersized tzu to produce equally small or tiny puppies so they can sell them for high price, calling them names such as "teacup", "imperial", and/or princess.

champline means that the puppy or dog came from parents or ancestors who have been champion in the show ring.

there is no such thing as princess type nor imperial type. marketing strategy lang yan ng mga sellers. sa bawat litter posibleng may ipanganak na maliit compared sa mga kapatid. they are called RUNTS. meaning pinakamahina. it is also an abnormality in the breed. kumabaga sa tao "bansot". these shih tzu are not meant to be used as a brood bitch. the smaller the shih tzu is mas madaming health problems.

reputable breeders will not sell their small puppies tagging them as imperial nor princess type. it's either they keep them as pets and spay/neuter them or sell them at a cheaper price with a spay/neuter contract.

for example, fantasia shih tzu has a really tiny shih tzu now. but she is not selling the puppy. she takes extra care of the puppy hoping it will at least grow up healthy and mabigay lahat ng needs ng puppy. she tube feeds the puppy and give fluid under the skin.

also, these kinds of shih tzu should not be sold at a more expensive price. some even claims na pag "princess or imperial" meaning maganda ang coat, so not true. yes, they do deserve loving homes but again, they are not meant to bred. delikado sa kanila magbuntis. una, kahit "princess or imperial" ang shih tzu mo, there is no guarantee na maliliit din ang mga magiging anak nito. simula palang yun ng problem.

lastly, these small shih tzu cannot enter the show ring. first of all, madami na silang faults. the height, the structure, etc. some sellers will say princess or imperial type puppies nila kahit di naman maliit. be wise na lang po siguro tayo sa presyohan. hehe.  grin1

i have nothing about tiny shih tzu. they are cute and lovable. but before buying one, make sure you are ready for the greater responsibility of having one.

P.S.
i have one shih tzu na sabi ng seller princess type daw. i saw the dam and indeed magkamukha sila and very small ang dam. i bought the puppy wanting to have a "mini" pet shih tzu. but, she grew up as a normal sized shih tzu. see what i mean? hehe. but i love her to pieces.

nasa sa inyo na din po kung gusto nyo pa din kumuha ng runts. pero most advisable po is kumuha na lang ng puppy na pasok sa breed standard.  Wink

hi...

ako din naguluhan dati sa mga princess, imperial, etc na yan... so i googled it...

and tama ung mga unang nagpost... there are no princess or imperial type... may standard size ang mga shih tzu, 4-7 kg ang weight and 7-11 in ang height... ung mga maliit, poor quality un... so, wag bibili nung maliit...

you're welcome. now ko lang napansin, dami ko typo. haha! ang hirap talaga makichismis sa forum while at work. ang hirap... magtype. LOL.  ROFL

i still find runts cute. but i will only buy one kung cheaper ang price compared sa mga normal ones.  grin1

minsan nakakainis when i stroll my dogs sa mall... people will ask "Princess type yan?", then i'll answer "No. Standard." and then they will say "Ay... standard lang pala.". haha! it's really irritating but dinadaan ko na lang sa ngiti kesa mapikon ako. nyaha! pag nag-ask sila why standard kinuha ko, saka ko na lang ineexplain.  peace

i also remember, Queenie stopped growing at 5 months. dati magugulat ang mga tao pag sinabi ko 3 or 4 months sya kasi malaki sya for her age. on her 6th month, halata na talaga pagstunt ng growth nya. to think! mas malaki pa sa kanya ngayon yung runt ko (suppose to be).  duuh

our vet said "Princess type pala si Queenie?". and grabe reaction ko, maluha luha ako and said "No...." haha!  Grin

still, i checked with my show kennel mentors and they said normal lang height nya. may mga ganon daw talaga na hihinto sandali paglaki. at di daw "princess type" si Queenie ko. hehe.  yahoo

way too much. at that price, pede ka na ng pet quality puppy na direct litter from champions ng mga show kennels (as in anak ng parehong champions) or yung mga show prospect na (different from show quality, as far as i know  grin1). check mo kung maliit talaga. hehe. kasi madaming buyer na namimislead talaga, either they pay too much on a runt or get a normal one thinking it is a runt.  confused

sa US when they sell "imperials", they're really tiny. though, may preferred height pa din sila. if they think it is too tiny, they will not breed it. but again, tiny shih tzu have more health problems.  Wink

"Ideally, height at withers is 9 to 10 inches; but, not less than 8 inches nor more than 11 inches. Ideally, weight of mature dogs — 9 to 16 pounds."

eto ang standard size ng shih tzu. if you have more queries... just refer to this site: http://www.americanshihtzuclub.org/ill_front

here naman are articles about "princess type", "imperial", or "teacup" shih tzu:
http://www.fantasiashihtzu.com/beware.html - an article from Fantasia Shih Tzu, one of the best show kennels in the country
http://www.shihtzu.org/info/imperial.asp - an article from the American Shih Tzu Club

After kong mabasa ito, tinimbang ko at sinukatan ung baby ko, buti naman pasok sa standand, she's exactly 4kg, medyo kakagaling lang nya sa sakit at recovering parin. 10 inches ung height and nasa 12inches length nya. nagworry naman ako dun,  kc sya ung pinakamaliit sa 3 magkakapatid, pero sya ang pinaka makulit, at masayahin like her mom, kaya sya ang kinuha namin.

Every time kc na me mga tao nakakakita samin they ask if princess type siya. Before i just say "yes" (kc un ang sabi nung breeder), then after i read shih tzu guides i tell them nlang na small size sya. Skowe is already 2 years old and 4 months. Sabi pa ng vet nya bakit di ko raw isali sa mga dog show. Sabi ko parang masyado syang maliit compared sa mga shih tzu na sumasali sa show. So i must say now na she's a standard shih-tzu and not a runt. yehey

runts are shih tzu that are smaller than the desired height in the breed standard.how old na ba ang tzu mo? iba-iba din kasi sila ng pace while growing. yung iba mabagal lumaki, yung iba mabilis sabay hinto. what you can do is wait until your tzu is about 10-12 months old then you can measure its height to the withers.

"Size

Ideally, height at withers is 9 to 10 inches; but, not less than 8 inches nor more than 11 inches. Ideally, weight of mature dogs—9 to 16 pounds.

Clarification - It should be stressed that overall balance and quality should be of utmost importance, regardless of whether a particular dog falls into the lower or higher end of the ideals set forth in the standard.

It should also be noted that the proper dense and double coat may make a particular dog appear larger in size than it is in actuality.

Substance

Regardless of size, the Shih Tzu is always compact, solid and carries good weight and substance.

Clarification - A Shih Tzu should never be narrow or slab sided and should have a good amount of overall bone. Young or immature dogs should not be penalized for carrying less weight, providing the overall frame, bone and muscle tone projects a dog with good substance. When picked up, the Shih Tzu should be surprisingly heavy for its size."
